Green energy usage rises marginally

Energy generated from sustainable sources accounted for 4% of total energy usage in the Netherlands last year, up from 3.4% in 2008, the national statistics office CBS said on Monday.

The government’s official target is that 20% of energy should be generated from renewable sources by 2020.
Most of the green electricity comes from power stations fueled by biomass – wood, waste and plants. Wind energy accounts for just 1% of total energy usage.
