Convicted violent pimp released until appeal

Thursday 29 April 2010

Judges in Amsterdam have released a man sentenced to four years in jail for his role in a violent prostitution gang, pending his appeal, news agency ANP reports on Thursday.

The decision has disappointed the public prosecution department and shocked victims, some of whom have now gone into hiding, ANP says.

'We are strongly opposed to this,' a department spokeswoman said. 'The interests of society are more important than the personal interests of the suspect.'

Murat Ordu was jailed last year but has been freed to experience the birth of his child, the Telegraaf says. 'There are no concrete indications that Ordu is a fight risk,' advocate general Charles Wiegnant told the paper.

Ordu was part of a gang said to have forced over 20 women into prostitution in Amsterdam, The Hague, Alkmaar and Utrecht. Other members of the gang were jailed for six and five years.

Last year there was an outcry when another violent pimp Saban Baran left the country after was given a week's leave to bond with his new baby despite being a known flight risk. He was serving a 7.5-year sentence.

WTF??!! This goon is a risk in every other sense of the word, but not a flight risk? The dutch penal system is a joke, especially to victims who rely on its protection. Who is paying who? Does anyone smell a rat?
(yet when a bill is overdue, the baliffs are at your door without fail. I guess that makes non-payers flight risks))

Used to be human trafficers now pimps?! What is it glamorous? Better street credit before launching rapping career?
And on subject itself - of course he'll be let go, cos he's bloddy violent. Why would you want to deal with real thugs, when there is plenty of people talking on mobiles, and parking too quickly and gathering near old people's windows. Jokes!

So the message the judges send to the victims of the pimp is "Take the law in your hands, you won't be prosecuted hard anyway."

The court is showing this thug far more compassion than he showed any one of his victims. That's vile. The court should start working for the Pope helping to cover up child rape. They'd show those victims just as much compassion and justice as the ones here, while coddling the child rapists. A perfect match.

This is a joke.
How can you have a country where honest people are scared and criminals circulate freely?
Advocate general Charles Wiegnant you are a joke!
Just look at Singapore where such criminals are firmly jailed to protect society.

I guess criminals are more honest and trustworthy in The Netherlands.
How does this process work? Are they handcuffed and surrounded by police officers at all times until they are back in jail? If this is done without a constant escort, well I would say it’s just plain stupid.
If it is done with supervision publish the costs to the state for all of this mercy by the judge. People seem to somehow take more action to fix these things when they see a cost.
