Bad weather hits Easter days out, but furniture malls benefit

Some 800,000 foreign tourists were in the Netherlands over the Easter break, down 50,000 on a year ago, and the bad weather hit turnover at the country’s main amusement parks, the Dutch tourist board NBTC said on Tuesday.

Nevertheless, theme park owners said their complexes were ‘pleasantly busy’ and the weekend was a ‘fine start’ to the season, news agency ANP reported.
Cinemas and furniture malls benefited from the rain. The Villa Arena complex south of Amsterdam reported some 10,000 visitors, up from 8,000 last year, while Alexandrium in Rotterdam said visitor numbers were up 3,000.
Dutch cinema market leader Pathe said it had sold 155,000 cinema tickets over the weekend, compared with 50,000 last year.
