19 parties contest June 9 election

In total, 19 parties will contest the June 9 general election, the electoral council said on Thursday, the deadline for parties to submit their lists of potential MPs.


Earlier, it emerged 48 parties had signed up to take part, but most have not completed the next stage of the election process.
As well as the traditional parties, a number of new groupings are taking part. These include the Piratenpartij (pirate party), Partij voor Mens en Spirit (party for mankind and spirit) and Partij voor de Mens en Alle Overige Aardbewoners (party for mankind and all other earthdwellers).
