Wilders is bad for the Netherlands: employers

Saturday 13 March 2010

Anti-Islam campaigner Geert Wilders is seriously damaging the Netherlands' reputation as a world economy, Bernard Wientjes, head of the country's biggest employers organisation VNO-NCW says in an interview with Saturday's Volkskrant.

For example, Wilders' performance at a news conference a week ago during which he called Turkey's prime minister Recep Erdogan a 'total freak' was 'outrageous', Wientjes said. 'It really shocked the British press.'

The Volkskrant reports that Wientjes telephoned his Turkish counterpart after the news conference to try to explain the situation.

The damage Wilders is causing will eventualy have an affect on the Netherlands' prosperity, Wientjes said. 'The entire discussion about headscarves is irrelevant. But here is seems to be more important than anything else,' he said.

Prosperity

'But no where do you read that our prosperity is largely dependent on the rest of the world.'

Wientjes admitted the VNO-NCW would be forced to do business with Wilders if he becomes part of the next government. 'But we would strongly advise anyone from joining forces with the PVV, based on our international position.'

In addition, the Dutch decision to pull out of Afghanistan will also have an affect on the image of the Netherlands as a world player, he said.

For example, the Netherlands wish to join the G20 discussions is now at risk, Wientjes told the Volkskrant.

Invitation

The Netherlands is not part of the G20 group of industrialised nations despite the size of its economy because the population is too small. But last year it was invited to G20 talks as an observer.

'Our invitation to take part in the Toronto talks hangs by a silken thread,' Wientjes said.

Last week,
caretaker foreign minister Maxime Verhagen said Wilders' actions were damaging the Dutch reputation abroad.

I totally agree. For us, economy, global image and the welfare of common people are more important then the empty useless slogans of headscarf, immigration and islam. These slogans do not serve the interest of the country or the interest of the common people. This is a third world politics

Employers like mass immigration for cheap labour only!

I will visit the Netherlands under Wilders and will be happy to travel around that great Christian country spending thousands of Euros.

I totally disagree.. Mr.Wilders actions put the Netherlands front and center on the world stage. This is the only politician who will call a spade a spade. And the sooner he controls the reigns of power in the Netherlands the sooner the Dutch will get their country back. He should be looked at as an example for countries like The U.K Canada and the U.S

Geert Wilders kinda reminded me of someone else who is similar but taken less seriously ... The English UKIP MEP Nigel Farage,.

Wilders has not harmed business in the Netherlands or for Europe!

It amazes me how many important Dutch officials can not see the grave danger facing their country. Mr. Wilders is the one outstanding hero among them who is bravely risking life and limb to save his country from the dreadful fate of being lost forever to islamization. while so many criticize and batter him he stands firm in an untiring attempt to save the future of their descendants and hundreds of years of Dutch culture and freedom. To these unthinking Dutchmen, I say loudly, WAKE UP!! See what is going on in your country and throughout Europe! Stand together and support those who are heroically trying to save your culture!

Wilders is a democtratically elected politician. Wientjes is the voice of "Big Capital" and not a member of parliament as far as I recall. Once more Wilders struggle is a struggle against all the cosy elites in NL. We will see who wins.....

I hear Geert is not too physically well either. Too much self induced stress cannot be helping. Probably taken on far too much work also. I hope he gets a chance to get some rest and make a good recovery ... then again, he is in Germany ... hopefully not having to seek good health care as many of his fellow nationals have to do.

They just realize he's a bad name for the Dutch.

All day long he talk how he hates Islam but doesn't talk about how he will change our economy or anything at all. You guys better wake up and realize this guy will be the end of us.

I am amazed that it has taken folks like Foreign Minister and the head of the country's biggest employers organisation VNO-NCW this long time to see the effect of this "spoilt young man Wilders" bracing and bragging for a wish to be seen as a populist. He is just a chalartant. You have not seen nothing yet. That he is seen as even a possible head of government by some polls makes me wonder whether the Dutch have any idea that they live in an international community. As this article said: "'But no where do you read that our prosperity is largely dependent on the rest of the world. So the dutch media is also being taking for a good jolly ride by this man. Come on, let us learn to call a spade a spade. wilders is not only a poison for the migrants or the Muslims but for the whole country as a whole. Democracy has always had boundaries and limitations. We migrants laugh at him and wonder what makes this beautiful country tolerate such abuses on vulnerable citizens.

If my memory serves me right, another country also called a certain person a hero because he was looking after their interests...look what happened once he got elected! many people say it would not happen again..many people will be wrong...one thing for sure human beings love finding a scapegoat to blame for all their countries ills..this time around, it is Islam and Muslims...get a life people and start thinking less emotionally and more objectively. Whether you like it or not, you depend on many countries to make things work and no one country can do it alone..Muslim or not..

Everyone has a right to their own religion be it Christian, Jew, Muslim, etc. To take that away would be very wrong. Jews cut off harmless parts of penises, why aren't we talking about banning THAT? That's worse than wearing a headscarf! Oh we don't because it's their RELIGION? Yeah, see above.

When I read the article I thought "thank God, people are finally waking up and calling Wilders' what he is, the biggest threat to Netherlands". But when I read some of the posts above, I am shocked that there are many people who think that Islam is "invading" Netherlands, it cannot be further from the truth just because a minority subscribe to that religion, and of that a very small fraction could be radical. But what of the Dutch non-muslims, the overwhelming majority, what do they beleive in? Is is to eliminate anyone with a different ideology or opinion? What about the tolerence and openmindedness, has Wilders really been able to change people's thoughts that much.
Wilders is a maniac, I hope he is only one of the few in the Netherlands, and we do not become like Libya or North Korea, producing international hatred.

I find it interesting that the parts of Europe not subjected to Muslim occupation cannot imagine that a population with a large plurality of Muslims in it poses a threat to their freedoms and lifestyle, while for the Balkans and parts of Central Europe there is a much greater appreciation of the potential threat. Perhaps Wilders is a little harsh at times in his rhetoric, but do not let style distract you from the core realities he has correctly diagnosed. Europe is subject to long term demographic danger from Muslim immigration coupled with the unwillingness of these populations to assimilate into the host cultures. The great American President Abraham Lincoln drew upon the language of Jesus to remind Americans during the crisis which lead to the American Civil War that a house divided against itself cannot stand, and that eventually America would either be a country with liberty for all everywhere, or slavery for some everywhere. Europe is facing the exact same threat and choice, and Wilders is correct to point it out.

"Wilders is seriously damaging the Netherlands' reputation as a world economy"

Since when has the Netherlands had a world economy. There is no economy. Its just a really rich country because of things like the 'Gouden Eeuw'.

Dutch economy. Isnt that an oxymoron.

Also can we all just get it together to ignore the idiot that this news report is about. That would hurt him more than anything else cause hes just a media whore. He got more publicity getting kicked out of England last year then he did this year when he went and showed his stupid 'movie' to the house of lords.

Personally i dont think the above ejit is fully to blame on this one though cause the economy wasnt great when nobody knew who he was.

What do you call a Dutch Economist?

Unemployed.

Unfortunately Mr. Wilders is not educated enough to know many Muslim scholars whose work greatly contributed to the built of western culture:

1) Avicenna
2) Al-Khwarizmi
3) Abu Rayhan Biruni
4) Rumi (Jalal ad-Din MuḼammad Balkhi)
5) ...

Improve your education.

As History shows, when any fanatic leader has poisoned coexistence, has been a great disaster for its country. Because a successful economy is a result of agreements, integration and common efforts. In economic terms, thinking on exclusions always is the losers' way of thinking.
