Vera Pauw quits as women’s football coach

Vera Pauw, who took the Dutch women’s football team to the semi finals of the European cup last year, has resigned because of a difference of opinion with the football association about the future of the women’s game.

‘We have grown apart,’ Pauw said in a statement.
‘I have to accept that my will is not alway law. Within the KNVB there are other streams busy with the development of women’s football.’
According to the Volkskrant, Pauw wanted a wider role as the national team coach, but the KNVB wanted her to focus on the international squad.
Her last match as coach is the World Cup qualifier against Slovakia on April 1.
