Ryanair under fire from Air France-KLM
Thursday 11 March 2010
Airline group Air France-KLM is to make a formal complaint to the European Union about illegal state support for budget airline Ryanair, according to Le Figaro.
The paper says the Irish airline enjoyed €660m in government subsidies in 2008, including €35m in France itself. The support came in the form of reducing landing fees and airport taxes.
Ryanair dismissed the claims. 'It’s Air France that is getting illegal aid in terms of reduced airport taxes on its domestic routes in France,' website airlinepost.com quoted a Ryanair spokesman as saying.
The European Commission has made several investigations into state support for Ryanair in the past.
