Rotterdam local election votes recounted
Friday 12 March 2010
City council officials have finished recounting the 220,000 plus votes cast in last week's local election in an effort to end rumours of miscounting and irregularities.
Labour emerged just 651 votes ahead of the local populist party Leefbaar Nederland in the poll, but the vote was marred by widescale allegations of misconduct in the polling stations.
Those allegations are now being investigated by the public prosecution department.
The results of the recount will be announced by mayor Achmed Aboutaleb at midday.
If Labour are still ahead of Leefbaar, the party will begin the process of forming a new local administration.
