Maastricht orders a recount of votes

Friday 05 March 2010

Officials in Maastricht are to begin the process of recounting all votes cast in the southern city after it emerged mistakes had been made in at least one polling station.

'This has cast doubt on the entire result,' a city council spokesman told Nos tv.

According to the results presented on Wednesday evening, support for the Labour party almost halved, with the party taking six fewer seats to end on seven.

Christian Democrat support was unchanged at seven seats, although it had a bigger share of the vote than Labour.

But according to some reports the CDA should have eight seats and Labour six.
