Jewelry stolen at Maastricht antiques fair
Monday 22 March 2010
A ring and pendant worth €860,000 were stolen from a London antiques dealer on the last day of the 11-day Tefaf fair in Maastricht, news agency ANP reports.
The jewelry - a platinum ring with diamonds and a 11.65 carat pink sapphire and a 7.23 carat diamond pendant - disappeared in the last hour of the show, a Tefaf spokeswoman told ANP.
Two years ago, a €1.2m diamond neckace was stolen during the show.
The show, which closed on Sunday, attracted nearly 73,000 visitors, 4,000 more than last year's. 'It was a good fair and sales were good as well,' the spokeswoman said.
