Elections: GroenLinks top in Utrecht, Nijmegen

Left wing green party GroenLinks emerged as the biggest party in Utrecht with 10 of the 45 city council seats.

‘This is a dream result,’ local party leader Marry Mos told reporters. GroenLinks pulled out of the local coalition in 2009.
The Liberal Democrats D66 took nine seats, six more than in 2006. It now has the same number of seats on the city council as the Labour party, which lost five.
GroenLinks also emerged as the biggest party in Nijmegen in terms of support but will have the same number of seats on the city council as Labour – eight.
