Cleaning sector pay talks resume

Cleaning company bosses and unions are to restart talks on a new pay deal on Tuesday morning after the employers offered a 2.5% pay rise over two years.

Cleaners have been taking industrial action over the past five months in support of their claim for a 3% rise this year or a 4% rise over two years. Employers had called for a pay freeze.
‘Finally, cleaners have a foot in the door,’ union negotiator Ron Meyer told website Nu.nl.
The unions are also planning to set up a special commission to make sure a pay rise does not lead to worsening working conditions and increased pressure, Meyer said.
Over the past five weeks, cleaners at major railway stations and Schiphol airport have staged an all-out strike.
