Ajax overtakes PSV , title race heats up
Monday 22 March 2010
A 1-1 draw between premier league leader FC Twente and the number 2 PSV Eindhoven allowed Amsterdam's Ajax to sneak into second position in this weekend's football.
Ajax beat RKC Waalwijk 1-5 after a difficult first half.
With six matches still to play, Ajax is now four points behind Twente and one ahead of PSV. On paper at least, Ajax has the easier ride ahead to take the league title.
Twente and PSV must both still play the number four Feyenoord and number five, AZ of Alkmaar.
'A couple of months ago I would not have dared say we might overtake PSV,' Ajax coach Martin Jol told news agency ANP. 'Now we are on the hunt for FC Twente. And I don't think it will be impossible to overtake them.'
