Welfare claimants must 'reintegrate'Monday 08 February 2010 A 45-year-old welfare benefit claimant from Amsterdam has been told by judges that a formal reintegration programme to help him find work cannot be considered forced labour. The man had refused to take the course, arguing it would break laws banning compulsory work. The council consequently cut his benefits. The court said the reintegration programme can not be considered forced labour because there is no physical or mental compulsion. The man had been claiming welfare benefits for 18 years when council first took action against him in 2006. © DutchNews.nl Get the DutchNews.nl newsletter in your mailbox: Click here to subscribe
So this 45 year old has not worked since age 23? Something fishy going on here. me thinks...the best juicy bits are missing. How about the full story (For a change!) - and WTF has this person been doing for the last 22YEARS??? Not enough info for a good comment... By stevie | February 8, 2010 7:52 PM What a pity. He will have to finally go to work and actually be productive. I wonder how many kids he has on welfare, too? By The Cat Lady | February 8, 2010 9:13 PM Finally a step in the right direction. It may have taken its time, but at least there is some action by the government to start making people work and not just live of social security and abusing the system. By B | February 9, 2010 7:55 AM I agree stevie...what IS his story? Why has he slipped through the cracks for 22 years? So easy to bark "lazy" and be outraged, but there's probably more to the story... By CW | February 9, 2010 9:46 AM Place your comments: |

Poor lad. Only eighteen years on the dole and now some heartless penpusher is daring to suggest that he actually earn a living instead of living like a parasite on the rest of us. No wonder he refused.
