Snow leads to long rush hour jams

Wednesday 10 February 2010

The snowfall in the early hours of Wednesday morning led to long jams in much of the country during the rush hour.

In particular, the roads around Amsterdam, Utrecht and Rotterdam have been badly affected. The snow fell mainly in the west and central areas.

By 8.30 am there were 320 km of jams, compared with 180 km on a normal day, according to motoring organisation ANWB.

With temperatures remaining around zero for most of the day, the roads are likely to remain slipppery everywhere, the organisation said.

I was hoping that transport minister Camiel Eurlings prayers, on his Aligned Christian Democratic knees, to God, for better weather would be rewarded and save the precious salt but it seems not.

The snowfall in the early hours of Wednesday created unprecedented mess with the bus services in different cities. Especially in a university town like Delft where public transport service (bus service in particular) is heavily relied upon proved to be an utter failure this morning - no buses at the centrum, hundreds of students waiting for the buses at the rush hour - the bus company behaved in a very irresponsible manner. After a long wait, when a single bus came into view, a total chaos developed at the bus station.

The Snowfall effect also always causes the Erasmuslijn TRAM running from Rotterdam-Hofplein to Den Haag Centraal .. Ridiculous to see that even if 1 cm snow falls the trams get delayed by 30mins.. and poor people have to suffer in cold .. There is no option except waiting waiting and waiting .. And yeah if the snow is heavy like the one in dec.. than everything is stucked.. what a transportation service huh!! And this is not only the case with winter or snow .. all round the year there is some or other issue always going on with this line ... GOSHHHH!! I dont have a alternative nywayss... bear it and keep silence !!!

Christian Democratic prayers seem to be falling on deaf ears in Heaven.

Tut!

Not only are Dutch drivers, and ANWB upset with this Government, but now God as well.

Why is that news? If the authorities were in control, that would be news.
