No passport, no vote

Friday 26 February 2010

Some 200,000 people will be unable to vote in the March local and June national elections because they do not have valid ID, the AD reports on Friday.

Since last year people have been required by law to show their passports or ID cards when voting.

In particular, many elderly people will be disenfranchised because they no longer travel and have let their passports expire, the paper says.

This isn't surprising: there's been a law on the books for several years that ALL residents of NL have to be able to produce ID at anytime when asked by a public official (police, fire, park ranger). This is no different. http://www.gelijkoversteken.org/en/index.html

This implies that in previous years dutch were able to vote without showing any ID??? Maybe that explains the results and stability of dutch governments ;-)

parallels with the hijacked George Dubya Bush election, when goodness knows how many hundred of thousands of primarily black voters were disenfranchised.

and look at the trouble that he caused whilst in office.

Can a driver's license be used? Are there any other id cards that are valid when voting?
