Greetings from Schiermonnikoog in 1968

A postcard from the Wadden Sea island of Schiermonnikoog has been delivered to an address in Hilversum 42 years after it was first sent, local paper Gooi en Eemlander reports on Thursday.

The postcard, with a 15 cent stamp, was posted on July 27, 1968 and arrived at the correct address in Hilversum earlier this week.
A TNT post spokeswoman was unable to say why the postcard has taken so long to arrive at its destination.
‘The card was franked in Leeuwarden but we left that building in 1998,’ a spokeswoman said.
‘It could be that the postcard was properly delivered at the time but that someone found it and posted it again.’
The card was handled by TNT in the past week because it has been stamped with a modern barcode.
