Former ministers all packed up

The 12 Labour ministers and junior ministers who resigned from the government at the weekend have immediately lost all their parliamentary rights and privileges, the Telegraaf reports on Monday.

‘You arrive as a minister but the next time you have to report to reception like everyone else,’ one parliamentary worker told the paper.
The ministers’ personal assistants and support staff have also lost their jobs, the paper says. Even the ministerial websites have been adapted overnight, with Jan Kees de Jager’s ‘smiling face’ replacing Labour leader Wouter Bos on the finance ministry page.
Meanwhile, Bos is reportedly considering whether or not to take a seat in parliament by asking another Labour MP to resign on his behalf. Bos is the only party leader with out a parliamentary presence and this could be a disadvantage during the election campaign.
The ministers who do not have other jobs will be able to take advantage of the generous unemployment package for former ministers. This entitles them to 80% of their salary for one year and 70% for up to a further five years.
