Escaped human trafficker arrested in Turkey

Convicted human trafficker Saban Baran, who escaped from custody after being allowed prison leave to visit his new baby, has been arrested in Turkey.

Baran was appealing against a 7.5 year jail sentence for forcing over 100 women into prostitution when he was allowed home and disappeared in September.
He has been arrested in Turkey on charges of blackmail and money laundering. Turkey does not extradite its own nationals, but according to Dutch media Baran may be forced to sit out his sentence in a Turkish jail.
The escape caused a major outcry in the Netherlands and is partly responsible for changes in prison leave regulations.
The Arnhem court gave the go-ahead to the compassionate leave, despite the objections of the public prosecution department, which said he was a flight risk and that it had been tipped off he was making travel plans.
