Bijenkorf department store: metro stops here
Thursday 11 February 2010
Amsterdam department store, the Bijenkorf, has expressed grave doubts over plans to tunnel under its flagship shop on Dam square as part of the controversial north-south metro line, writes the Telegraaf on Thursday.
In a letter to the Amsterdam city council, the Bijenkorf says the council underestimates the risks involved and has failed to come up with a contingency plan if things go disastrously wrong.
If the council does not order further investigations into the project’s safety, the Bijenkorf will do its utmost to delay the official starting date for the tunnelling work, due to begin on March 11, the paper states.

Poor old Amsterdam city council - they've only had 8 years to investigate the risks. Naughty Bijenkorf shouldn't pressure them!
