Bankruptcies reach record level

A record 10,500 companies went bankrupt in the Netherlands last year, beating the previous record of 10,000 bankruptcies set in 2005.
The increase on 2008 was 54%, the national statistics office CBS said. Business service firms, such as staffing agencies, advisory bureaus and IT companies were the most likely to go under.
Excluding one-man companies, the total number of bankruptices reached 7,000, an 82% increase on 2008.
In addition, 2,500 private individuals were declared bankrupt in 2009, up 14% on the previous year.
