Balkenende, Bos to lead party campaigns

Prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende has been unanimously chosen to the lead the Christian Democrats into the next election – probably around the end of May.

Labour leader Wouter Bos is also the only candidate to head up the Labour party’s campaign, various media reported on Saturday.
On Saturday, Balkenende submitted his cabinet’s resignation to the queen, following Labour’s decision to leave the coalition because of the dispute over Afghanistan. The CDA and ChristenUnie will continue to run the country in a caretaker function until a new government has been chosen.
