Woman fined for bread knife in carMonday 04 January 2010 A woman from the staunchly religious town of Staphorst has been fined €60 for carrying a bread knife in her car, just hours after picking it up at her local bakery though a savings stamps scheme, the Telegraaf reports on Monday. The knife was spotted by police in her car glovebox during a routine check when she was asked to produce her car papers. The woman had placed it there for safe-keeping while she went shopping. Baker Willem Ubak told the paper he considers the police action was childish and that he will pay the fine. UPDATE: The woman, Marry Schra, told the Telegraaf on Tuesday she had been fined for not having her car papers with her and was not fined for the bread knife. © DutchNews.nl
I agree with the Baker. By Al | January 4, 2010 10:25 AM Is the Netherlands loosing its mind? By alanposting | January 4, 2010 11:07 AM This is both unbelieveable and pathetic! How do people get newly purchased knives home from the shops ? By Swin | January 4, 2010 11:46 AM People riding bicycles without lights should spend at least a weekend in jail! I was hit by one of those jerks who ran into me with no lights!! I wonder if Winter Kills would also want police to ignore auto drivers who ride with no lights. I rather doubt it. By Glenn | January 4, 2010 4:20 PM and rabbits found staring at car lights should be hanged in public!!! bloody assassins... By occasional_light-less_biker | January 4, 2010 6:20 PM I don't understand. Is carrying a knife in the privacy of your car illegal in the Netherlands? Are the Dutch afraid drivers will perform drive-by stabbings? By Chris V | January 5, 2010 12:21 AM 2010 Happy New Year - Typical Police, getting started with their 'Fines Target's' for the year !. Jesus Christ if the woman had the proof that she obtained the knife on a legal basis, it would of looked worse if she had it on her person at least she had the sense to keep it in her glove compartment, if she had more shopping to do. This country is trully going backwards. By Weimer | January 6, 2010 7:08 AM

After the breakdown in law and order on New Years eve the police are out in force to prove their potency and authority. They feel the heat from the attention drawn to their impotency to catch actual criminals so take to the streets looking out for people with no cycle lights, etc, etc.
