Vopak CEO is company boss of the year
Sunday 03 January 2010
John Paul Broeders, CEO at oil and chemical storage firm Vopak, has been named best manager of 2009 by members of the Dutch shareholders' assocation VEB.
Broeders, 45, has headed up Vopak since 2006 and surprised shareholders by twice raising the group's earnings forecasts in 2009.
Vopak's share price doubled during the year, while the AEX blue chip index itself rose 35%.
'Growth this year exceeded our expectations,' Broeders told the VEB in a telephone reaction from Singapore.
With 32.7% of the vote, Broeders was just ahead of Chris Ouwinga, CEO at software firm Unit 4 Agresso.
