University hospital sets up steroid clinic

Amsterdam’s VU university teaching hospital is setting up a special clinic for the estimated 20,000 users of anabolic steroids, news agency ANP reports on Monday.

The hospital says many steroid users – usually bodybuilders – are afraid to ask for help through regular channels because they bought the steroids on the black market.
Among the complaints associated with illegal steroid use are infertility, breast development, acne, liver damage and psychiatric problems.
A spokesman stressed to ANP that the clinic will not prescribe steroids.
