Mortgage insurance often useless

Home owners’ lobby group VEH has begun collecting complaints from people who have discovered insurance supposed to protect their mortgage payments if they become unemployed are virtually useless.

Not only have home owners discovered that up to 42% of their premiums has gone in costs and commission, but that insurers have attached very strict conditions to any payouts, the organisation told the Telegraaf.
For example, some mortgage holders have discovered the policy only covers people who are in permanent jobs and not eligible for social security payments, the organisation says. ‘These policies are scandalous,’ a spokesman told the Telegraaf.
The insurance sector association VvV has welcomed the home owners’ move. The campaign covers policies taken out prior to 2007.
