The legal case against anti-Islam MP Geert Wilders has been extended to include inciting hatred against Moroccans and non-Western immigrants, the Volkskrant reports on Wednesday.

The paper says the public prosecution department has taken the decision under its own steam, despite its earlier opposition to prosecuting the MP at all. But Amsterdam's appeal court ruled a year ago Wilders should face charges of discrimination and inciting hatred.

The extra charge is based on Wilders' statement that 'the borders will close that same day to all non-western immigrants', the paper said. The statement appears to refer to Wilders' plans if he became prime minister.

Wilders' opponents welcomed the department's decision. 'It is a good move,' said lawyer Gerard Spong, who has received death threats for his anti-Wilders' stand.

'Wilders always says he is attacking Islam, not Muslims,' lawyer Haroon Raza told the paper. 'But Wilders is not only talking about Muslims but non-Western immigrants, or people with different coloured skin.'

The anti-racism organisaton NBK has failed several times to have Wilders prosecuted for racial discrimination.

Excellent, finally something is being done to reverse the trend of intolerence.

It is pitty that the gvt here is reluctant to enact descrimination into chargable offence offence because they are also guilty as well.This is a shame.BIG SHAME.

I find this so hypocritical and complete nonsense. Wilders is being used as an escape goat for those who started the anti immigration trend long before Wilders came into the picture. Shame on VVD, CDA, PVDA, Groenlinks and others for turning on their own to take the blame for their own atmosphere that they themselves created to try to win votes and seats. These partijs are not interested in justice, they want Wilders out of the way so they can try to take his votes and seats, that is the real reason behind this prosecution charges against Wilders. This whole case reeks of political motivation and hypocrisy! It should be investigated by the European human rights court immediately. If the government really wanted justice, they would throw out the whole inburgeringswet and start all over against to include everyone in that law, Western, non Western and EU citizens because that inburgeringswet is directed against specific groups of people, even in the tests itself it is discriminitory because it refers to Muslims and non Westerners on many aspects of the test. All partijs backed the law up, need I say more? Leave Wilders alone and let him free. The government look at itself and it´s own political atmosphere by cleaning up the mess it created and spread to other EU countries. Start by forcing a new vote for a new Prime Minister with balls that is active and not allowing everyone else to do his job. A new prime minister that looks for the Dutch citizens interest first rather then his own political careers interest.
