Europe’s competition commissioner Neelie Kroes should use her new job as commissioner for IT and telecoms to tackle Europe’s ‘ ineffective’ and ‘anti-competitive’ regulators, KPN chief executive Ad Scheepbouwer said in a speech to industry leaders in Brussels on Tuesday.

‘There is still no competitive European communications market,’ news agency ANP quoted Scheepbouwer as saying. Local regulators, MPs and national governments are all failing when it comes to stimulating competition, Scheepbouwer said.
Kroes will take over at the helm of the European IT and telecoms sector in February, if her appointment gets the backing of the European parliament on January 26.
