Eneco to build British offshore wind farm

Dutch energy firm Eneco is one of a number of companies which have won contracts to build nine giant wind farms off the coast of Britain.

Eneco is to be involved in building a 0.9 gigawatt wind farm off the Isle of Wight in the English channel which will produce enough electricity to power 450,000 homes.
According to the NRC, the Eneco project is seven times the size of the Amalia wind farm in the Dutch North Sea which it also helped build.
The total development requires a £100bn investment programme, which would make the UK by far the world leader for offshore wind, the Financial Times says. The project is of a comparable scale to the opening of the North Sea to oil and gas production in the 1970s, the paper said.
