Dutch rescue squads heads for Haiti
Thursday 14 January 2010
A transport plane carrying a team of 72 rescue workers and eight dogs left from Eindhoven airport on Thursday afternoon to help with the rescue effort in Haiti, where thousands of people were killed in Tuesday's earthquake.
The Urban Search and Rescue team will spend some 10 days on the island. 'This is standard procedure. After 10 days it is very unlikely that any more survivors will be found,' a spokesman told news agency ANP.
The flight is also carrying a small medical team which will focus on repatriating Dutch survivors of the quake. Of the 38 Dutch nationals known to be on Haiti, 18 are still unaccounted for.
