Death flight pilot’s family appeals to Màxima

The daughter of pilot Julio Poch, who is accused of carrying out death flights on behalf of the Argentine junta, has appealed to princess Máxima for her support, the Telegraaf reports on Monday.

Máxima, like Poch, holds both Argentine and Dutch nationality. Her father Jorge Zorreguieta was a cabinet member during the junta period.
A spokesman for the state information service RVD told Nos tv that once the letter had been found it would be passed to the relevant minister. ‘The princess cannot and does not want to be involved in this case,’ an RVD spokesman told the tv station.
One of the ways the dictatorship dealt with opponents was to drug them and throw them out of planes over the Atlantic ocean to drown. Argentina was ruled by the junta between 1976 and 1983.
Poch is currently being held in Spain, where he was arrested last year. He told the Telegraaf he wants to be deported to Argentina as soon as possible. ‘I will only find justice in my home country,’ the paper quoted him as saying.
