ChristenUnie wants tougher cafe, club rules

Monday 18 January 2010

Orthodox Christian party ChristenUnie thinks cafes and bars should ban the under-16s from entering after 10pm and would like to see a 1pm cut-off for the under-18s going to clubs, Trouw reports on Monday.

New rules for the hospitality industry, which MPs will debate in February, give local authorities the power to set age limits on bar and cafe visits.

The cafe or club owner will be responsible for checking the age of younger customers who want to enter after the time limit which councils agree.

ChristenUnie, which is part of the three-party government, drew up the draft legislation.

Amsterdam city council has also said it will pressure the government to introduce an 18 year age limit on the sale of alcohol in supermarkets.

I think the CU & Trouw meant 1am cut-off for under-18s.

My personal opinion is that political parties with religious names and policies should be banned from the politics. Otherwise, how about having a party with a name like "Moslim Unie", and a corresponding policy? They will find voters for sure here in Holland.
