Woman in burqa turned away from clinic

Tuesday 29 December 2009

A 23-year-old Muslim woman from Utrecht who says she was not allowed into a first aid clinic on Christmas Day with her three-month old baby because she was wearing a burqa has submitted a complaint to the equal opportunities committee.

According to media reports on Tuesday, the doctor was prepared to examine the baby with his father but would not allow the mother to be present.

Last year the government announced plans to ban the wearing of burqas in schools and said it might consider bringing in a similar ban for hospital and other healthcare staff.

this is good.
i have no problem with the hijab because most muslims that i meet say it is fard( obligatory) but the niqab/burka is unnecessary. They should ban ALL face coverings.

As much as I detest women wearing the burqa I believe Children should never be denied emergency medical care, no matter how their parents are dressed.

This is such total BS!!!
This is just as much a right of freedom of expression as deciding what color shoes to wear! I feel for this family, they don't deserve to be treated this way :(

So now people have to dress appropriately to get the medical care that they pay? This story is short on substance, so it's hard to know if there was some kind of threat posed to the clinic by this person's burqa, but I can't imagine it was any worse than your typical motorcycle outfit.

Really, people should know better. I often get asked to remove my sunglasses and ski-mask when I enter a bank, and I don't object to doing so. It's just a courtesy to the banks other customers who might be worried I am one who might harm them, while safe in my anonymity.

Absurdity, the baby cann't help it that the mother is wearing a burka!
The one who dismissed her should be handed to the Iranian Secret police!

i am amazed at how narrow minded and biased people can be,on the one hand they talk about freedom of expression etc but when a person in a manner disliked by the majority because it has to do with islam in a non muslim country then where is your so called freedom of expression, human rights etc is not your so called constitution a hypocritical one?
