Train services running at 80%, says NS

Dutch Rail (NS) said it will be running 80% of regular services on Wednesday following three days of disruption because of the wintry weather.

There will be two stop trains and two intercity services an hour on every route, a spokesman told news agency ANP. Steps have been taken to end the problems with frozen points which have plagued the railway system since the snow started, the spokesman said.
To compensate passengers for the disruption, everyone with a season ticket will be able to take another person with them free of charge next Tuesday. Next Wednesday, train fares will be cut by 40% for the day, ANP reported.
On Tuesday, transport minister Camiel Eurlings told MPs he had ordered state-owned NS to explain why rail services had been so badly affected by the snow.
Elsewhere, the ANWB motoring organisation reports few problems on the roads. On minor roads in the east of the country there are some slippery stretches, the ANWB said.
Some flights to and from Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport are still being delayed because of wintry weather in other parts of Europe. The airport’s website is still urging travellers to check with their own airline.
