Traffic jams down 14% in 2009
Monday 28 December 2009
Traffic congestion was down 14% in 2009 compared to last year, said motoring organisation ANWB on Monday.
The reduction is the result of the recession and better weather conditions during the rush hours, said the ANWB.
There was 19% less congestion in the morning rush hour and 15% less in the evening while traffic jams at other times of the day were down 8%, according to the ANWB.
However, many roads were busier in the weekend in 2009, mainly as a result of maintenance work.
The most congested roads in 2009 were the A2 between Utrecht and Den Bosch, the A2 between Amsterdam and Utrecht, and the A4 motorway between Amsterdam and The Hague (ANWB top 10 traffic hot-spots).
