Snow disrupts rail and bus traffic

Commuters are being warned of serious disruption on the railways and bus routes on Monday morning following more snow overnight.

Dutch Rail is operating some services but is telling passengers not to travel unless their journey is essential. More snow is forecast for Monday.
Regional bus services are also being disrupted in many parts of the country, with limited or no early morning services in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, the Hague, Breda and many other places because of the icy roads. In Groningen, buses are operating, the Telegraaf reports. Services in Amsterdam started at around 8am.
Some 700 passengers were forced to spend the night at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport because their flights were cancelled. The airport had provided camp beds.
Travellers are being told flights face delays of at least 90 minutes with some European flights being cancelled altogether.
The ANWB motoring organisation is also warning drivers of very slippery conditions on many roads following the snow last night. More is expected on Monday, particularly in the north. On Sunday there were hundreds of accidents on the roads and one person was killed, Nos tv reported.
