Provincial council opposes Twente airport
Thursday 17 December 2009
A majority of members of the Overijssel provincial council are opposed to plans to develop a new passenger airport on an air force base near Enschede.
The city council and national government want to turn the base into a compact, commercial airport for the east of the country.
'The business case is not sound and all the financial risks are for the region and the province. In addition, there is no word on continued military use,' Wim Dalhuijsen of the provincial Socialist party told the Telegraaf.
