Police seize 3,000 kgs illegal fireworks

Wednesday 30 December 2009

Police in Den Bosch have seized 3,000 kilos of illegal fireworks and made two arrests, reports ANP news service on Wednesday.

The fireworks have been destroyed, a police spokesman said.

The traditional sale of fireworks for New Year’s Eve celebrations officially started on Tuesday.

The sale of fireworks to the general public in the Netherlands is only allowed on the three days before 31 December.

I can't believe they aren't all illegal! I dread this time of year with all the "legal" fireworks in my neighborhood. Why can't there be approved firework shows all over the country and leave the little explosives out of the picture?
I know I sound like a grump, but who wants to look at the leftover red paper wrappings for a week?

The only time of year that the public are allowed explosives: and what a miserable expensive selection compared to 30 years ago.

He He, I prefer to watch other people burn-up their heavily taxed money!

For every spent firework, there's a person going hungry. Why not use that tax for a good cause?

Every year the same debate comes around about 'FIREWORKS'. 1stly debate to 'BAN' them. 2ndly DEBATE when the public can buy them. Well 3dys before Dec 31st this does NOT happen, people buy them all year just for the New Year & give to the under 16's which quiet frankly is ridiculous & illegal. They spend all the FESTIVE SEASON annoying public & animals to their amusement. Where is the POLICE CONTROL for those???? absolutely hate the FIREWORKS at this time of year. Then it's asked every year if Public want them BANNED as enough people including myself COMPLAIN - but nothing is ever done. Organised displays are safer & nicer for the Families & the Fireworks are not illegal or getting into hands of people who don't care - just for PROFIT !!
