Dutch museums attracted around 11 million visitors in 2009, about the same number as last year, according to the Dutch Museum association, reports ANP news service on Wednesday.

‘That is outstanding in light of the worldwide recession which resulted in fewer tourists visiting our country,’ a spokesman for the association is quoted as saying.
One of the museums that did particularly well in 2009 was the FOAM photograph gallery in Amsterdam which saw visitors rise to 190,000 this year compared to 107,000 in 2008.
However the city’s three main museums (Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank House and the Rijksmuseum) were slightly less popular than last year.
