Motorists warned of icy roads

Tuesday 29 December 2009

The meteorological office issued a severe weather warning for the north and central regions of the country on Tuesday afternoon. The KNMI warns that there could be up to 15 centimetres of snow and that roads will be dangerously icy.

The southern part of the country will see rain turn into sleet and here too there is the risk of black ice, said the KNMI.

Motoring organisations are expecting severe problems on the roads during the evening rush hour.

Earlier in the day various weather organisations warned of a colder period of extreme winter weather in the coming two weeks and ProRail said it could not rule out more chaos for train passengers.
