Five youths arrested for snow muggings

Five youths aged 17 to 19 have been arrested in Gouda for attempting to rob road users by building barricades out of snow and garbage containers.

The barriers forced cyclists to stop, so the thiefs could then try to steal their bags, Nos tv reported on Tuesday.
The youths also threw snow balls at passersby in an attempt to provoke a violent reaction, Nos said.
According to the AD, youths in the Hague also built barriers with snow which forced cars to stop so they could rob motorists. However, the paper did not give any further details on its website.
In Rotterdam, a 57-year-old man has been arrested after threatening boys throwing snowballs with an axe, news agency ANP reported.
