Five youths arrested for snow muggingsTuesday 22 December 2009 Five youths aged 17 to 19 have been arrested in Gouda for attempting to rob road users by building barricades out of snow and garbage containers. The barriers forced cyclists to stop, so the thiefs could then try to steal their bags, Nos tv reported on Tuesday. The youths also threw snow balls at passersby in an attempt to provoke a violent reaction, Nos said. According to the AD, youths in the Hague also built barriers with snow which forced cars to stop so they could rob motorists. However, the paper did not give any further details on its website. In Rotterdam, a 57-year-old man has been arrested after threatening boys throwing snowballs with an axe, news agency ANP reported. © DutchNews.nl
In Washington, DC, an off duty police detective pulled his gun when a snowball hit his car. People in DC had arranged via twitter to show up for a mass snowball fight. Harmless snowball fight. What gives the cop the right to pull his weapon and waive it around? By jeanette | December 22, 2009 3:22 PM It's great fun for the kids, and the watching parents, but when those with balance problems - it's bad enough without snow and ice - get hit by unexpected snowballs, and have to fight for balance, or risk falling, more pain, risk of fractures, and a hospital trip ... it's not funny at all! 'in an attempt to provoke a violent reaction' A few years ago a friend living in Texas was struck by a bottle from a passing car. He was okay but he "provoked a violent reaction" when he pulled a pistol from his backpack and begin firing. That is the Texas version of a violent reaction.
