Dutch Muslims donate meat to food banks

Dutch Muslims donated almost 3,400 kg of meat to the country’s food banks during this year’s Eid Al-Adha, or festival of sacrifice, said charity organisation Cordaid on Wednesday.

Cordaid, a Catholic organisation, helped collect the meat which will be processed into sausages for distribution to food banks nationwide and restaurants for the homeless.
In Islam, Muslims are supposed to donate to the poor part of the animals they traditionally sacrifice as a symbol their willingness to give up things that are of benefit or close to their hearts. Many Muslims also give money, the Telegraaf said.
