Dutch minaret motion rejected by most MPs

Wednesday 02 December 2009

A motion calling for 'reticence' in the placing of visible satellite dishes, the sounding Muslim calls to prayer and the building of big mosques and minarets was overwhelmingly rejected by MPs on Tuesday.

The measure was proposed by the fundamentalist Christian party SGP, which does not allow women to run for office and regards homosexuality as a sin. The SGP has two seats in parliament.

The party said its motion would meet the 'feelings of alienation and unease among many native Dutch people' and called on the government to discuss the issue with migrant organisations and the local authorities.

The SGP was supported by Geert Wilders' anti Islam party PVV and populist MP Rita Verdonk. The right-wing Liberal VVD at first backed the motion but later changed its mind, saying the issue was up to local councils to decide, news agency ANP reported.

Amazing.. finally the government has rejected a proposal which could only incite yet more racial and religious hatred in Holland. They must be losing it - or maybe they were all just tired after forcing through yet more nonsense for the inbuggering exams..

Muslims should be extended equal rights !
Muslims in Switzerland should be exteneded rights equal to the rights that the Saudi's extend to Christians in Saudia Arabia. NONE. It is Christians that should be fuming. There are severe consequences for practicing Christianity in Saudia Arabia, including the death penalty for Muslims that become Christians. No Bibles or non-islamic religious symbols are permited. Until Islamic countries like Saudi Arabia are willing to reciprocate, Muslims should shut the F--- up and direct the outrage elsewhere.

In Kuwait, a predominantly Muslim country, Christians are free to practise their religion in the open. There are many churches of all denominations. The Prime Minister recently had an audience with the Pope. Not all Muslim countries discriminate against Christians and this should be remembered.

I just wonder where is the violation in human rights if minarets are not gonna be built. A violation would have been if muslims were not allowed to exercise their religious rights in the mosques. If i want to have a building where orgies take place for example, because i believe in god dionysous of ancient greece and i am not allowed...witht he same logic isnt that i violation of my human rights? p.s could i do sthng like that in saudi arabia, iran, turkey or u name what "muslim" country?
