Dutch ask Venezuala to explain spying claims

Friday 18 December 2009

Foreign minister Maxime Verhagen has asked Venezuala's ambassador to explain president Hugo Chavez' claims that the Netherlands is allowing the United States to use three Dutch Antillean islands to prepare a possible military attack against his country.

'There is no question of imperialism or any aggression whatsoever,' news agency ANP reported Verhagen as saying.

Chavez claims the US has sent intelligence agents, war ships and spy planes to the Dutch Carribean islands of Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire.

'They are three islands in Venezuela's territorial waters, but they are still under an imperial regime: the Netherlands,' Chavez was reported as saying during a speech at the climate change conference in Denmark.

The islands have given the Americans access to civilian airfields on the island, but that is in connection with anti-drugs campaigns, news agency ANP said.

Why are Americans and their planes stationed on the Island of Curacaao. Why does Balkenende always kiss ass?
Get rid of these Yankees !

What possible reason would the US have for invading Venezuela? The cost of any invasion, plus peacekeeping, plus repairs to vital facilities would cost us more per year than we spend on Venezuelan oil. It's several orders of magnitude cheaper to buy it, even if we WANTED to invade. Anyone who claims the US is planning (or even planning to plan) to invade Venezuela is rather far removed from reality.

Tugboat, read up about the history of US military intervention into Venevzuela. Then read up about the political consequences of the US 'War on drugs'. After you've done this then come back to this discussion and into "reality".
