Ban on drug use while driving nears

A majority of MPs and police chiefs have given their backing to cabinet plans to introduce zero tolerance driving under the influence of drugs, news agency ANP reports.

According to transport minister Camiel Eurlings, between 10% and 25% of traffic accident deaths are drugs related, a figure he describes as ‘unacceptable’.
Eurlings and justice minister Ernst Hirsch Balin plan to introduce legislation to ban drugs and driving by the middle of next year, it emerged during a parliamentary debate on road safety on Wednesday evening.
