US wants terror suspect to be extradited

The US has asked the Netherlands to extradite a 43-year-old terror suspect who was arrested in Dronten, Flevoland, at the weekend.

The Somalian, who is thought to have been in the Netherlands since the end of 2008, is alleged to have helped extremists travel to Somalia to train with the radical Islamic movement Al Shabaab, the Volkskrant reports. According to the NRC, he was living at a refugee centre when arrested.
A spokesman for the Dutch security service AIVD told the paper the case is partly based on Dutch intelligence information. The man has also lived in Minneapolis.
The paper says the Somali community in the Netherlands is worried about their children being recruited for terrorist purposes.
In July, four Dutch youths suspected of being on their way to an Al Shabaab training camp were arrested in Kenya. The charges were later dropped.
