TNT Post makes new job loss proposal

Monday 09 November 2009

Postal firm TNT Post has made a new pay proposal to staff which will remove the threat of 11,000 redundancies, the Telegraaf reported at the weekend.

The new proposal calls for company-wide pay cuts of between 2% and 3.5%. This would partly come from less generous Sunday work bonuses and increased pension premiums, the paper says.

If all members of staff agree to a 3.5% pay cut, the number of compulsory sackings can be reduced to not more than 1,000, a TNT spokesman told the paper.

In March, TNT told delivery workers they would have to accept a 15% pay cut in order to stave off mass job losses. That plan was rejected by all the postal workers' unions and led to a stand off between unions and employers.

However, at the end of October postal unions said they now accept post office workers will have to choose between pay cuts and maintaining employment levels.
