Sjaak Hullekes wins Dutch fashion award
Monday 09 November 2009
Men's fashion designer Sjaak Hullekes has won the third Mercedes Benz Dutch Fashion Award and takes home €25,000 in prize money.
Hullekes has had his own label since 2006 and says he will use the winnings to promote his collection abroad.
'I want to build my brand into an independent, internationally-known label,' he told the Telegraaf on Monday.
Hulleke's clothing is wearable and accessible, jury member and Paris-based consultant Jean Jacques Picard told the paper. 'We need talented young designers who can think commercially,' he said. 'That is the only way to survive in this very tough business.'
