Neelie Kroes is Dutch candidate for Brussels

Current competition commissioner Neelie Kroes will be the Netherlands candidate for a job on the new commission, the Telegraaf quoted prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende as saying on Tuesday.

Commission chairman José Manuel Barroso is keen to give Kroes a heavyweight economic portfolio and also appoint her deputy chairman of the commission, the paper says.
There has been mounting speculation about Kroes’ future in Brussels since she said last week she would be prepared to take another economy-related job. Kroes, 68, has lobbied hard to remain in Brussels and ‘finish the job’.
According to Nos tv, Kroes may be moved from the competition department to foreign affairs.
