Local tax rise is below inflation
Thursday 26 November 2009
Local taxes will rise no more than the rate of inflation next year, a spokeswoman for the Dutch local authorities association VNG says in Thursday's Telegraaf.
Inflation is forecast to reach 1% in 2010.
The VNG has written to local councils urging them to increase property, waste services and water taxes as little as possible to help ease the effect of the recession. 'Our impression is that councils are being very prudent,' spokeswoman Frotina Zuidema told the paper.
Many councils are actually lowering waste water charges next year, she said.
